Beatrice Roger

Beatrice Roger earned her JD at Northwestern University School of Law. She started her legal career at Lone Star Legal Aid in Houston, Texas, where she had an Equal Justice Works Fellowship (EJW). Over the course of two years, she designed and fully implemented a project in which she sought to expand the definition of “victim” to include not only primary victims, but any individuals who had exposure to the criminal justice system. She provided legal services to marginalized individuals who were often barred from services due to involvement with the justice system.

She also worked to diminish juvenile crime by designing and implementing restorative justice practices into Houston area schools and juvenile probation centers.

Laura Russell

While earning her JD at Lewis and Clark Law School, Laura helped launch Oregon’s first medical-legal partnership. She co-founded the Medical-Legal Partnership of Oregon (MLPO) and the Oregon Health Justice Center (OHJC). She also met OHJC’s other managing attorney, Beatrice Roger, during law school when they both served as law clerks at the Chicago Medical Legal Partnership for Children.

Prior to law school, Laura studied and worked in health policy, intent on better understanding the intersection of health and poverty. She believes that medical-legal partnerships serve a vital role in combating the effects of poverty and trauma on patient and population health.
